Turkey and Wales go head to head on Matchday 2 of Group A. Their recent encounters have been close affairs, check out our full betting preview for the latest team news, match odds and betting tips and predictions.
Turkey 🇹🇷 Team News
Turkey made their European Championship finals debut in 1996, and this will be their fifth Euro in total. The Turks qualified for Euro 2020 by finishing second in Group H behind France. They started the tournament as potential "dark horses" but they were quickly put to the sword by a very impressive Italian team in the tournament curtain raiser.
Şenol Güneş, Turkey coach...
"We need to look ahead. We want to get six points against Wales and Switzerland. Wales are a good team defensively. They attack fast, and they are also good at set-pieces. This game is like a decider for us, but the Switzerland match will be another decider. Every game is so important and we will do our utmost to win both."
Turkey Predicted Lineup
Uğurcan Çakır; Mehmet Zeki Çelik, Merih Demiral, Çağlar Söyüncü, Cengiz Umut Meraş; Kaan Ayhan, Ozan Tufan, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, İrfan Can Kahveci, Cengiz Ünder; Burak Yılmaz
Key Player: Hakan Calhanoglu
Hakan Calhanoglu is a German-born midfielder of Turkish ancestry (just like Mesut Ozil) except Calhanoglu has expressed his commitment to the Turkey. Calhanoglu currently plies his trade in Serie A with AC Milan, where his dangerous knuckleball free-kick has seen him compared with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Wales 🏴 Team News
Only the second major championship finals for the Welsh Dragons, having debuted at Euro 2016 with their stunning run to the semi's, they are back at Euro 2020 after a qualifying campaign that took some time to get going. They showed plenty of grit and determination in their opening game against Switzerland, coming from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw.
Robert Page, Wales coach...
"To get off to a positive start was important for us. We go into every game for the win. If four points is enough [to qualify], brilliant. If not we'll keep going. We respect the teams that are in this group and competition, but we don't fear anybody."
Wales Predicted Lineup
Ward; Roberts, Mepham, Rodon, Davies; Morrell, Allen; Bale, Ramsey, James; Moore
Key Player: Gareth Bale
At his peak, Bale was one of the most feared attacking players in the world. With the frightening pace and a willingness to take on any defender, he would rip defences apart with some of his performances. Although not the old Spurs player, Bale has returned to Tottenham on a season-long loan, hoping to put his Real Madrid nightmare behind him. He may not have started as many games as Tottenham fans would have hoped for, but he is still Wales' best player, captain and most dangerous threat.
Turkey v Wales Head to Head
Wales have won three of the six meetings between the two sides, although the last victory was a 1-0 win in Ankara in 1981. The most recent fixture took place in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup, a thrilling encounter that ended 6-4 in favour of the Turks.
Turkey v Wales Match Prediction
Turkey will be looking to put the opening game behind them and recapture some of their impressive qualifying form. They will see a lot more of the ball in this game and Wales will allow them many more chances than the Italian's did on the opening night.
